Top TV team starts work on carers centre

Nick Knowles fronts DIY SOS: The Big Build

Teams from BBC TV’s DIY SOS moved into Blackpool to day to begin work on one of their most ambitious and heartfelt projects to date.

Presenter Nick Knowles (pictured) and his Purple Shirts team began transforming a Blackpool-based young carers centre from a run-down, neglected Victorian house, to a fun, safe and supportive environment where young carers are able to enjoy their childhood.

The transformation, which will benefit Blackpool Carers, is being carried out in conjunction with Children in Need and the show is due to be screened in November to coincide with the appeal.

‘Carer support charities are indispensable’

Sunday 03 April 2016

Dr Dan Poulter

Last week in Parliament I hosted an event to launch a campaign to raise awareness about child carers.

Honeypot, a children’s charity which gives respite care for carers aged five to 12, launched their campaign For Children Who Care to encourage MPs to recognise the challenges faced by young carers and to raise awareness of the need for respite care and to support organisations such as Honeypot.

Honeypot is the only UK charity providing consistent and regular support to young carers between the ages of five and 12.

Young carers face significant responsibilities and often find it difficult to relate to their peers, concentrate in school and play with their friends.

Honeypot offers these children a safe place where they can simply be children, in a supportive, safe environment.

West Norfolk Carers Somewhere for Me appeal makes flippin’ good start

Staff enjoying a pancake breakfast to launch Britain’s Biggest Brekkie event to raise funds for carers

A fundraising breakfast campaign to help local young carers got off to a flippin’ great start this week.

The Carers Trust launched its nationwide annual Britain’s Best Breakfast campaign yesterday – and West Norfolk Carers (WNC) is getting involved to help boost the Lynn News Somewhere for Me appeal.

Families, friends and colleagues are now being urged to raise a (piece of) toast for local young carers and “wake up to caring” by getting together for fundraising fry-ups, pancakes and more.
