Life’s a beach for Thurso Co-op staff

 

LOCAL supermarket staff will be donning their sun hats and shades later today to raise money for a learning disability charity.

Workers at the Co-operative shop in Meadow Lane, Thurso, are having an in-store summer beach party to raise funds for ENABLE Scotland – the country’s leading charity for children and adults who have learning disabilities. It is the Co-operative’s chosen charity of the year for 2011.

A NORTH MSP has welcomed the new autism alert card which can assist emergency personnel if someone with the condition is involved in an accident or becomes a victim of crime.

CAMPAIGNERS for the disabled have criticised a postcode lottery of increased charges for personal care, which have reached as much as £22 an hour for vital support in parts of Scotland.

Families of the disabled say they have been hit by hikes in care bills over recent months from councils that have upped charges as budgets flatline.

Disabled people claim they are being unfairly punished by having to pay hundreds of pounds a month

 

for help with washing, cooking and other support, which was once free.
