In store beach party to raise funds for ENABLE Scotland

Life’s a beach for Thurso Co-op staff

LOCAL supermarket staff will be donning their sun hats and shades later today to raise money for a learning disability charity.

Workers at the Co-operative shop in Meadow Lane, Thurso, are having an in-store summer beach party to raise funds for ENABLE Scotland – the country’s leading charity for children and adults who have learning disabilities. It is the Co-operative’s chosen charity of the year for 2011.

Meadow Lane store manager Brian Wares explained that staff across all the Co-operative’s businesses have been taking part in a series of events in aid of ENABLE Scotland, and its sister charity, Mencap, over the past eight months.

“We’ve been busy fundraising for ENABLE Scotland and we’re all determined to keep the momentum going right through until the end of the year,” he said earlier this week.

“We hope that all our customers will visit the store on Friday to join in the beach-themed fun. It’s fantastic to know that fun events like this one can help inspire thousands of young people with a learning disability to change their world.”

Thanks to the efforts of Co-operative staff, ENABLE Scotland and Mencap are now rolling out their “Inspire Me” programme at locations across the UK, providing activities, training, employment and volunteering opportunities that will give young people with a learning disability the chance to build their confidence and develop life skills.
