The Government has been told to do more to support carers who have jobs outside the home.

It is estimated that unpaid carers save the British economy £87 billion a year in potential care costs – but they are not eligible for paid leave from work to take their loved ones to scheduled hospital appointments or planned appointments with their doctors.

Victory for mental health campaigners as deal struck over Norfolk helpline

Patients and campaigners can today celebrate after health bosses agreed a solution to prevent people from being affected by the closure of a helpline.

In a victory for service-users and mental health advocates, callers to the Norwich and Central Norfolk Mind Mental Health Helpline will get support from another service.

A recently widowed grandmother wept with happiness after retirement home staff gave her a cushion made out of her late husband’s favourite shirt.

Joyce Beckett, 93, became distressed in the evenings after her husband of 70 years, John, died aged 91 on February 11.
