Prescriptions up 20p despite calls for charges to be cut
Prescriptions up 20p despite calls for charges to be cut
The cost of prescriptions in England will rise from £7.20 to £7.40 per item, the Government has announced.
10:25AM GMT 04 Mar 2011
The move will come as a blow to campaigners, including the British Medical Association (BMA), who have been calling for charges to be scrapped altogether.
The Department of Health has also announced that dental charges will rise.
England is the only part of Britain still charging for prescriptions. They are free in Wales and Northern Ireland and will be free in Scotland from April 1.

Following life-saving surgery, Ron Stringers wife Sylvia became partially disabled, meaning Ron has been looking after her at their Hucknall home ever since.
Like many carers, Rons life changed dramatically when he first started caring for a loved one. Although his new role certainly has its rewards, he is perhaps typical of many with caring responsibilities in the daily frustrations that he experiences along the way.
