Lancashire care home abuses revealed

Twenty-three carers across Lancashire have been dismissed or are under investigation for abusing and mistreating patients, it has been revealed.
A Freedom of Information request has revealed eight cases involving physical abuse, four concerning financial and emotional abuse and five cases of verbal abuse across Lancashire County Council’s 17 care homes over the past two years.

Oldham Carers’ Centre manager Miranda Di Blasio has expressed concern that government funds will not reach those who need it most.
As she welcomed local MPs Michael Meacher and Debbie Abrahams to the Phoenix Centre as part of National Carers’ Week, Miranda was at the same time worried that not enough cash would go towards providing breaks for carers.

A record number of pensioners are devoting their retirement to looking after elderly relatives.
The army of ‘grey carers’ has soared to nearly 1.2million, up 15 per cent in a decade, reveal figures from Carers UK and academics.
These over-65s are spending what should be their own golden years looking after parents, relatives or partners who are increasingly living into their 80s and 90s.
