The unveiling of new accomodition based in Carlogie House grounds was opened officially on Wednesday morning by David Leslie ex Scotland rugby player who also handed over a giant wooden spoon. It was given by the Wooden Spoon childrens rugby charity. Pictured with David, fron centre, are charity members chid carers and invited guests.

YOUNG carers visiting a respite centre in Carnoustie received a real treat last week when they got a new caravan, writes Johnston Ralston.

 

The Carlogie House Centre for the Princess Royal Trust East Ayrshire Carers has proven so popular with young carers that extra accommodation was required.

Bed-blocking problem increased because of council cuts

THE decision to axe in-house county council care staff has added to the bed-blocking crisis, according to a council source.

A social care employee told the Oxford Mail that hospitalised pensioners who relied on council carers could not return home as they were waiting for private care to be arranged.

The council’s own internal home support service is being wound down after the council decided to axe it in April.

NHP, the care home landlord, is to put 33 learning disability units on the market following its decision to take over 297 Southern Cross homes on 1st October.Southern Cross was the UK’s largest care home operator, with over 30,000 residents and 752 homes. Landlords rejected demands from Southern Cross to drop rents and took control of the homes themselves.
