Christmas fair to help carers organisation

An organisation that helps people with profound learning disabilities and their carers in South Lanarkshire is gearing up for a fundraising Christmas fair.

PAMIS, which helps 85 families across the area, is organising a sale of crafts and jewellery at Wishaw General Hospital on December 2, with all the money raised going towards events and fun activities for people with profound and multiple learning disabilities (PMLD).

CHARITY bosses have criticised proposals which could see pensioners paying hundreds of pounds more per week for social care.

It is feared up to 3,000 elderly Wearsiders could be hit by the changes being considered by Sunderland City Council.

The proposed shake-up to the contributions policy would remove a maximum cap of £108.70.

Instead, people would be individually assessed as to what they can afford to pay.

One of a handful of women in the world to undergo cancer treatment whilst pregnant has celebrated the birth of a healthy baby boy thanks to pioneering treatment from clinicians at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust (UHCW).
