Local authorities set to launch campaign to raise awareness of theft from older people

A campaign called ‘Tell Someone’ will be launched in Aberdeen next week [Monday 26 September] by the three Adult Protection Committee’s in Grampian to raise awareness of the financial harm of vulnerable older people in the North-east of Scotland.
Mo Ramsay, Independent Convener of the Aberdeen City, Aberdeenshire and Moray Adult Protection Committees will welcome delegates to the event being held at Aberdeen Football Club, Pittodrie and outline why financial harm was chosen for the campaign.

More needs to be done to protect people from failing care services in England, a report says.
The National Audit office warns greater safeguards are needed when a firm runs into financial trouble as happened recently with Southern Cross homes.
It says there are shortcomings in the government reforms to how services are funded.
The Department of Health says it is already considering whether to oversee the £23bn market more losely.

There are thought to be six million carers in the UK. Many of them are over retirement age.

The Princess Royal Trust for Carers says family doctors should offer older carers an annual health check, including screening for depression.
The charity says almost 70% of hundreds of older carers questioned in a survey said that their health was suffering because of their responsibilities.
