Plans to integrate health and social care across Scotland are being pushed ahead despite the fears of those providing the services that costs will spiral while quality may suffer. Maureen Ferrier reports
The Scottish government has its own directorate for health and social care integration whose purpose is “to ensure that where care is needed it is of high quality and is provided in a timely, efficient and effective way as close to home or a homely setting as possible”.

CHARITY bosses have criticised proposals which could see pensioners paying hundreds of pounds more per week for social care.
It is feared up to 3,000 elderly Wearsiders could be hit by the changes being considered by Sunderland City Council.
The proposed shake-up to the contributions policy would remove a maximum cap of £108.70.
Instead, people would be individually assessed as to what they can afford to pay.

Councils are “living in a parallel universe” by cutting the rates they pay for care home places but expecting the same service, industry leaders say.
The English Community Care Association, which represents charities and care firms, said the “appalling” behaviour was pushing some to the brink.
