Norfolk County Council needs to make £111m of savings over three years

A disability rights organisation has warned that worst case scenario cuts of £73m in spending on adult social care could leave some of Norfolk’s most vulnerable people “dejected and abandoned”.

Norfolk County Council needs to make £111m of savings over three years, so every committee has been asked to plan to be spending 25pc less in three years time.

That would save £169m, so not all the cuts and savings proposed will happen, but councillors wanted options so they have some element of choice.

More than 12 million fall into UK digital skills gap

Over 12 million people, and a million small businesses in the UK do not have the skills to prosper in the digital era. That is the warning today from Go.On UK, a charity set up to promote digital skills.

It has produced what it calls a digital exclusion heatmap, pinpointing the areas where people are most likely to miss out on the digital revolution.

NHS and care sector: Safety a ‘big concern’ in England

Safety across the NHS and care sectors in England is a “significant concern”, with particular problems in hospitals, inspectors are warning.

The Care Quality Commission review found three-quarters of hospitals visited under its new inspection regime so far had safety problems.

Over 40% of care and nursing homes and home care services and one in three GP services also had problems with safety.
