David Cameron is unveiling wholesale changes to the controversial NHS reform bill after an independent review criticised many of its key proposals.

The prime minister said the government had listened to fears about increased competition and more powers for GPs and would now slow the pace of change.

Fees could be introduced for carer short breaks

A “LIFELINE” for carers in Warwickshire could be ripped from under their feet in new plans to make them pay to take breaks from their demanding roles. Under the controversial proposals, Warwickshire County Council would charge for home-based short breaks, which allow family carers to relax for between six and 72 hours while care is provided to their loved one by someone else. Currently carers looking after either a person aged 65 or over, an older person with dementia, or a person with a physical disability, can make use of the home-based service – provided in south Warwickshire by Age UK – for free.
