Norwich woke up to the sound of honking horns this morning (Sunday) as children from across the county and beyond sat proudly in truck cabins travelling in style to Great Yarmouth and Pleasurewood Hills. 

In streets and lay-bys along the route from the city to the seaside town, thousands lined up waving flags and cheering as the East Coast Truckers convoy of 83 trucks set off on a day out for 73 disadvantaged children including those with disabilities, the terminally-ill and children with learning difficulties.

AT least 15,000 children are being raised in Scotland by members of their extended family because their natural parents are unfit to care for them, a major new study has found.

Drug and alcohol abuse, domes- tic violence and an increase in prison populations have led to a growing trend for extended family members to step up to the parenting role, with researchers describing an “invisible population” of carers who receive little or no support from the state.

Grandads who Care

STEP forward grandad for some long overdue recognition. For far too long the popular depiction of the family has centred on mum, dad and gran.

Grandad has been erased, or consigned to the potting shed, or shut away in the spare room, hrrumphing at the decline of radio programmes and daytime television.
