Back on January 4th I submitted a story on Alzheimer’s disease for publication in three community magazines in northern New Jersey. This was the first time I had done something like this.
Here is the first sentence:
A 65 year old baby boomer has a one in eight chance of suffering from Alzheimer’s disease.
Starting today, and over the weekend, you are going to hear those words repeated over and over on television and in the news.
Real concern that levels of diagnosis of dementia in some parts of Scotland are falling behind
Dementia diagnosis crisis looms
THE Borders is facing the worrying situation that while it may be the Scottish region with the highest percentage of its population over the age of 65, it is lagging way behind the rest of Scotland when it comes to the diagnosis of dementia.
Statistics reveal that only 40 per cent of those estimated to be suffering from dementia in the Borders have actually had it confirmed by a medical diagnosis.
