Care homes are not ordinary businesses that can safely be allowed to go bust

The signs point to a care crisis. BBC’s Panorama this week exposed the horrendous abuse of people with learning difficulties at Winterbourne View, a private care home in Bristol. Southern Cross has told its landlords that, unless it is permitted to reduce its rent payments, insolvency looms.

Government condemns ‘shocking’ Winterbourne View abuse

Secret filming at Winterbourne View appears to show patients being physically and verbally abused

A pattern of abuse at a residential hospital uncovered by BBC Panorama has been condemned as “shocking” by the government.

NHS South West said it had been “appalled” by the issues raised.

Carers need breaks – Give us a break.

Carers need breaks but some also need the support from SS which will enable them to have a break away.  We have for many years posted information about places for carers to take a break, and by far the best is the Kiloran Trust.   We are always glad to find out new places, please let us know.

GIVE US A BREAK: Ideas for developing easy ways to source respite breaks for carers online

Give Us A Break tackles the feelings of social isolation that are often experienced by people caring for an ill, frail or disabled family member, friend or partner. Give Us a Break aims to ease the burden of caring by providing a few days away from day-to-day responsibilities, as well as ongoing support over the phone and online. It is the first project run by soundinnovation, a not-for-profit hub to develop projects with a social purpose.
