Cancer carers ‘overlooked’ by NHS
Macmillan Cancer Support said that so-called “cancer carers” are being “overlooked” by the health service.
It cautioned that many carers are missing out on much-needed practical, emotional and financial help
.
The comments come after a poll of more than 2,000 cancer carers found that many were not signposted to support available for them as a carer.
Almost two fifths (37%) said that they were not given any information or advice about the services available to them by a health professional.

Patients should be given “full and unfettered” access to their medical records, Norfolk MP George Freeman will tell parliament today as he calls for a change in the law so patients own their own medical data.In a Ten Minute Rule Bill the Mid Norfolk MP will call for patients to be able to hand their medical data over to researchers to help drive new treatments for hard-to-cure diseases like Alzheimer’s and cancer.
His bill is supported by more than 50 UK medical charities including the prostate cancer campaign group Movember, Marie Curie, the Cystic Fibrosis Trust, and a number of leading research doctors.
George Freeman MP said that patient records were too often sitting on hospital shelves gathering dust – allowing failed treatments to be repeated over and over without anyone gathering the evidence to see what works and what fails – and why.

And now the rest of the country has heard of it too, thanks to Coleen Nolan singing its praises on Daybreak to around half a million viewers.
The Nolan Sisters’ singer took to the the ITV morning show to talk about how the hospice on Low Moor Road, Bispham, supported her sister, Bernie, and the rest of their family in Bernie’s final days.
And the Loose Women presenter helped to dispel common misconceptions about the palliative care unit.
She said: “You know about hospices but you think it’s depressing, it’s where people go in their final moments. So it was a bit scary when they said Bernie was going into a hospice.
“But I can’t tell you … it was the most amazing place.”
