Free Holidays For Northants Carers

Two luxury leisure lodges at Carlton Meres Country Park in Suffolk are now available free for holidays to carers in Northamptonshire thanks to a partnership between Northamptonshire Carers, NHS Northamptonshire, Northamptonshire County Council and Suffolk-based Lifestyle Living.
One of the lodges (pictured) is already available for parents or carers of a disabled child to holiday with their family. A second lodge, generously donated free of charge by Tony Barney owner of Lifestyle Living will soon be available for carers and their family or for groups of carers to take a break.
It is estimated that there are over 3,000 disabled children and young people living in Northamptonshire and more than 60,000 regular carers.
Councillor Andrew Grant, cabinet member for children and young people said: “This is a very tangible effect of the Aiming High for Disabled Children programme, which aims to improve the lives of disabled children and their families. We’ve seen many examples of how capital funding has been put to good use, and this particular investment will make it easier for Northamptonshire families living with disability to enjoy a holiday together.”
“Taking a break and having a change of scene can make a huge difference to carers and the people they care for. We hope carers in Northamptonshire will make good use of this opportunity,” says Sharon Benford, Project Development Manager for carers at NHS Northamptonshire.
Tony Barney, Chairman of Lifestyle Living Group says, “We are delighted to be able to help Northamptonshire Carers in its efforts, as we are so in awe of the great work that the organisation does. Our lodge homes and developments are ideal for short breaks for Carers and those that require care, and we look forward to continuing to support this organisation in any way we can.”
In order to keep the lodges free of charge, they will be rented out certain weeks of the year to cover site fees, maintenance and cleaning.
