Manchester cuts: Millions slashed from adults budget

Support for adults could be reduced by £8m over two years

The council is reducing funding for meals on wheels and lunch clubs

Millions of pounds of council funding which helps some of Manchester’s most vulnerable people is set to be cut.

Councillors will consider savings, described as “difficult decisions”, which will affect services from help for battered wives to meals-on-wheels.

Nearly 60 voluntary groups will lose all or part of their grants as the council seeks to cut £2m from the sector.

A CARER has questioned why a health services meeting was held in private as Knutsford care centres face closure.

Charlotte Peters Rock, whose husband Cyril suffers from dementia, has slammed Cheshire East Council for denying her access to the September meeting of the health and wellbeing scrutiny committee.

The Welfare Reform Bill had its second reading – a debate on the general principles of the Bill – in the House of Lords on Tuesday 13 September. More than 50 Members of the Lords took part, including Members with first-hand experience of the benefits system and disability. A petition on housing benefits was presented before the debate.
