Carers get help to understand the internet

Volunteers help ‘make a difference’ to carers

Tech-savvy Rochdale folk gave up their time to help carers pick up vital IT skills as part of a day of action to highlight the efforts of volunteers in the community.

Around 16 volunteers who regularly offer their time and skills through the Council for Voluntary Services Rochdale (CVSR) headed to the Ronald Gorton Centre to teach carers how to get online.

3pm 28th October

Many family home carers are not able to leave the house, so having the internet enables them to do shopping, banking, get services and most of all make friends.

Social Media Usage in the UK – The Findings

More than half UK pensioners now on Facebook
37.4 million UK adults use Facebook regularly
32.1 million UK adults use YouTube regularly
15.5 million UK adults on Twitter
7.9 million UK adults on LinkedIn
6.7 million UK adults on Flickr

There has been much talk in the press about how popular various social media platforms really are; how many people use Facebook in the UK? Does Twitter have more active accounts than Flickr? Is anyone over 40 interested in Foursquare? Social Networking UK stats Umpf

To remove any lingering doubt as to the popularity and importance of social media platforms, we conducted research with Your Say Pays, where we asked nearly 2,400 UK adults which social media platforms they used and how often.

We then analysed the results to bring what we believe is the most up-to-date snapshot of social media usage in the UK.
