Fears for the elderly in care homes
They are the places we want to feel safe and secure in our twilight years.
But news that leading care home company Southern Cross is facing a dire financial crisis has sounded the alarm that the whole system is teetering on the edge.
And that is something which should alarm every generation whether it is mum, dad, grandad, grandma or child.

The pledge comes after a BBC Panorama investigation showed staff at a privately run hospital mistreating adults with learning disabilities.

Saturday, June 4, 2011 Tony RussellWell the Government have finished their Listening Exercise on NHS Reforms but it’s all smoke and mirrors, because apart from a few tweeks I suspect they will do exactly what they want anyway. It’s a great shame they didn’t bother to listen in the first place and consult more widely, instead of just being guided by the ‘usual suspects’ and bureaucrats.
Actually given the whole debacle, I am surprised that nobody’s head has rolled – but we can live in hope. It must have been six to eight months ago when I wrote in Mental Health Today expressing my concerns. If somebody like me could see it coming, I am surprised that those supposedly far smarter people didn’t.
