KIND-HEARTED supermarket customers have chosen a town charity to benefit from their support.

Hartlepool Carers will be the official charity of Sainsbury’s, in Middle Warren, for the next 12 months.

Staff at the store, in Mulberry Rise, asked their customers and colleagues to nominate their chosen charity for the supermarket to support.

Researchers in Norwich have helped towards finding a cure for cancer, after taking a step towards understanding why an African rat lives for 30 years and is resistant to the killer disease. 

Staff at the Genome Analysis Centre at Norwich Research Park have been working with colleagues from the University of Liverpool on finding cures for diseases of old age, particularly cancer.

And their work has focused on the naked mole-rat which is native to the deserts of East Africa, lives underground, is impervious to pain and can survive despite the depleted oxygen levels in its burrows.

SIGNED photos by celebrity Stephen Fry and a three-course meal will be on offer at a forthcoming fundraiser for the Lynn News Young Carers’ Appeal. 

The charity night has been organised by the West Norfolk Young Carers’ Group, in Lynn, who will benefit from the new campaign.

It will take place at Lynn’s Town Hall, in Saturday Market Place, on Friday, October 14, from 8pm until 11.30pm.
