Cuts to transport scheme for disabled adults could force Flintshire carer out of work

Around 500 others who use the transport each week are also currently being assessed for eligibility

A WOMAN who cares for her disabled sister has blasted council bosses for a £400,000 transport service cut which could impact hundreds and force her to quit her job.

Julie Forster, of Mynydd Isa, is carer to her vulnerable 51-year-old sister Jackie, who has learning disabilities and often needs a wheelchair.

Jackie, like about 500 others in Flintshire, relies on council-funded transport, which uses private contractors to drive people with learning disabilities to day care centres or work opportunities.

MPs Reverse Lords’ Welfare Reform Defeats

A showdown between MPs and peers looms after the Commons overturned seven Lords defeats on the Government’s welfare reforms.

MPs voted by big majorities to restore some of the most controversial measures in the Welfare Reform Bill, with a majority of 82 for the controversial cap on benefits.

But in one vote – on the so-called “bedroom tax” – the coalition’s majority slumped to 42, as 14 Liberal Democrat MPs and two Tories, Gordon Henderson and Andrew Percy, rebelled.

FREE Dartmoor walks are being organised for people who care for a loved one affected by cancer so they can take some time off and re-energise themselves.

The monthly walks are designed to give cancer carers a chance to be with nature, step away from the trauma they are going through and find time and space form themselves.

Verran Townsend, a qualified mountain leader and founder of OutsideInsights company, which organises similar walks for business people to help them think outside the box, started organising the Dartmoor walks after his partner was diagnosed with cancer.
