If your loved one starts to change beyond all recognition, there could be a medical reason for it

When her sweet-natured husband Steve started showing drastic character changes, it never occurred to Gloria Double that he could be suffering from Alzheimer’s disease.

Steve was just 56 when he was diagnosed with the condition, after losing his job and having his wife start divorce proceedings. But now Gloria says he is largely back to the “lovely man” he was before thanks to the help he has received.

The couple, from Kedington, are backing a Department of Health campaign urging people to seek an early diagnosis from their doctor if a loved one is displaying the early symptoms of dementia.

A Remembrance Day service will be held on Twitter on Friday and Sunday, using 140 characters for readings, hymns, the last post, the names of those who gave their lives and contributions from veterans.

The project, run by a group of Methodists, is aimed at bringing together traditional elements of prayer and worship with a digital approach for people who cannot attend a service or would not normally do so. It is thought to be the first time a remembrance service has been held on the micro-blogging site.

Carers invited to visit Scottish Parliament

Local carers make parliament visit

TWO local MSPs, Graeme Dey (Angus South) and Nigel Don (Angus North & Mearns), welcomed a group of local carers to the Scottish Parliament building in Edinburgh last week.

Mr Dey had visited Angus Carers Centre in Arbroath earlier this year and invited them to come along and see First Minister’s Questions (FMQs). The carers came from Forfar, Letham, Arbroath, Kirriemuir, Carnoustie amongst a number of other towns and villages in the county.
