Government announces £4m funding for special educational needs in Norfolk and Suffolk

Lauren Cope

The government has announced it will give £2.7m to Norfolk County Council and £1.3m to Suffolk County Council to improve special educational needs and disability (SEND) facilities.

Facilities for some of the most vulnerable children in Norfolk and Suffolk could be bolstered by a £4m investment in special needs education.

The government will, over three years, give Norfolk County Council £2.7m and Suffolk County Council £1.3m to increase school capacity and improve provision for pupils with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

It comes as part of a nationwide investment, worth £215m, to local councils, which can be spent on infrastructure and facilities.

Though councils will be free to invest the funding as they wish, they will be expected to consult with parents, carers and schools and put together a plan on how the money will be spent.

Valentine’s Day & Dementia: What to Consider When Your Partner Has Dementia

Dementia does not define who they are.

Taking care of a loved one with Alzheimer’s disease or dementia can severely test the vows you made to one another many moons ago. It is a very difficult and strenuous job that inevitably causes pain and grief for the person you once knew – before dementia came crashing into your lives.

However, whilst loving and caring for someone with dementia can be hard, you will find that it can be incredibly rewarding if you remember a few important things. So, in the spirit of Valentine’s Day (14th February), here is what you should consider when your partner has dementia:

Dementia does not define who they are.

Being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease or another form of dementia is devastating and life-changing both for the patient and for their loved ones, but it is crucial to remember that dementia does not become that person. You knew who they were before their diagnosis, and it is important to hold on to those memories of who they really are.

Free bus rides help Norwich Foodbank deliver service

Norwich Foodbank has teamed up with Bus operator First Eastern Counties to make sure that people are able to pick up their emergency three-day food parcels with a free bus ride.

People who need to use foodbanks sometimes walk long distances with heavy shopping bags as they can’t afford public transport.

To address the issue, First Bus has developed a partnership with foodbank national charity the Trussell Trust, which already operates in the Midlands and Essex.

Now First Eastern Counties has linked up with Norwich Foodbank to offer bus journey vouchers, which can be used by people needing help from the foodbank and the volunteers who work there.
