Age UK today publishes a damning report, which shows the depth of the crisis in social care and its consequent human cost.

The report opens link in new window ‘Care in Crisis: Causes and Solutions’ provides the evidence to prove that care and support for older people in England has reached breaking point. 800,000 people who currently need care receive no formal support from either the state or private sector agencies. That figure may well rise to one million people within four years as a result of estimated cuts to already threadbare social care budgets.

The Carers and the bears

Once a year Carers Week is celebrated all over the country – and nowhere more so than in the Ribble Valley.

The area’s Crossroads Care team acknowledges the role carers play in looking after loved ones in their own homes and know how they value respite breaks.

So during the special week from June 13 to 19, there will be several events taking place either to raise funds or to promote the service.

Run by Great Yarmouth and Waveney Mind charity

Carers are being offered the chance to take–a–break beside–the–seaside in a holiday home that has just opened. The newly refurbished house at Caister–on–Sea, offers respite breaks for carers, and is run by mental health charity Great Yarmouth and Waveney Mind.
The three–bedroom holiday home is the first of its kind in the region and is available for rent by any person or family who cares for a relative and is need of a respite break. The holidays are specifically aimed at offering carers a break, though they can choose to bring those who they care for on the holiday too.
