Young dementia patients given helping hand

CARERS looking after Doncaster’s youngest victims of dementia have been given a boost, thanks to a brand new centre in the borough.

 Doncaster carer and service user group People Relying on People opened its new meeting place at Fulwood Lodge, St Catherine’s Close, in Balby.

Doncaster MP Rosie Winterton and Rotherham Doncaster and South Humber NHS Foundation Trust chief executive Christine Boswell performed the opening ceremony together.

People Relying on People, known as PROP, is a support group for people diagnosed with the young onset of dementia and their carers.

Young onset is defined as people who are aged under 65 when diagnosed.

The group has been running for 10 years and actively campaigns for the needs of younger dementia sufferers to be addressed.

It offers practical advice and support to patients.

It also gives them the chance to go on day trips and holidays with people who understand their situation.

The MP was joined on the occasion by members of PROP for the centre’s grand opening ceremony.
