We’ll get 500k more homes, SMEs & charities online

Carers need to be on Line

By Dido Harding, Chief Executive of TalkTalk Telecom Group PLC

Our mission at TalkTalk has always been to make our products affordable and accessible for all so we’re really proud to be signing up to the Digital Skills Charter to ensure that no individual or business misses out on the benefits of being online.

Specifically we have pledged that:

– Everyone who works for TalkTalk in the UK, whether directly or via one of our outsource partners, has basic online skills by 2015.  We will also be launching a new advanced learning and development programme for staff who want to increase their IT skills.

– We will launch a brand new volunteering scheme through our Give Something Back programme, working with UK online centres who will train TalkTalk staff to volunteer in our local communities to encourage people to get online.

– By the end of 2014, all of our key services will be online and useable by anyone with basic digital skills and we will continue to deliver best value ‘online first’ products and services for our customers

And last but by no means least, we have committed to getting 500,000 more homes, SMEs and charities online by the end of 2015. While all of us take the internet and all the incredible opportunities it offers for granted, there are still 10.8 million people in the UK who have never used the internet. It’s a more difficult problem and one that requires us to work together and to try new things.

I for one am certainly looking forward to the challenge!
