NEW research has found that spending on NHS support for unpaid carers has fallen – despite millions of pounds of extra funding being allocated for the purpose.

A year after the government allocated £400 million to primary care trusts for England’s five million carers, a study by the Princess Royal Trust and Crossroads Care looked into how it was being invested.

A COUPLE who have had more than 100 different carers since the beginning of the year have spoken out at their dismay with Plan Care’s ‘abominable’ service.

Patricia Reed, 78, of Weston Turville suffers from advanced multiple sclerosis combined with bowel complications and has been wheelchair bound for 32 years.

She therefore requires two carers to visit her home, four times a day, to tend to her needs such as being lifted out of bed and given help in dressing.

This week the viewing public cried over the sentimental John Lewis Christmas shopping advert with a cute young boy.

But when it comes to real pain, no one seems to care. The truth is that in Britain in 2011, few shed any tears over the cruel way the elderly are treated in this country. A new and shocking report by the Equality and Human Rights Commission shows that thousands of old people are being appallingly abused in their own homes by the very individuals employed to care for them.
