Big Frank Bruno proves a knock-out at mental health charity event held at Norwich hotel
Former world heavyweight champion and national treasure Frank Bruno was given a hero’s welcome as he took to the stage at a Norwich hotel.

Bruno’s mission is to help others deliver a knock-out blow to mental health issues.
The much-loved boxer, who realised his world title ambition in 1995 when he beat Oliver McCall at Wembley, has faced a long battle against bipolar disorder and was sectioned under the Mental Health Act in 2003.
But Bruno is coming to terms with his condition – and attended the Smile Ball at the De Vere Dunston Hall Hotel, near Norwich, in aid of Norwich Mind, a mental health charity, to help give others the confidence to do the same.
Bruno this year appeared in front of millions as a guest on Piers Morgan’s Life Stories show on ITV1, but it was TV presenter Trisha Goddard with whom he went toe-to-toe at the start of Saturday’s event.
Carers benefit from courses to help them look after themselves
The Looking After Me Course
Carers have been given useful advice to help them looking after themselves.
The Looking After Me Course, run by Education Programme for Patients, is aimed at carers providing them with information such as relaxation, healthy eating and communication skills.
A recent course was run in Pembrokeshire where 50 per cent of the participants cared for their spouse or partner and a further 40 per cent were carers for their child with long-term health conditions. Fifty per cent of participants also had a long-term health condition themselves.
Carers to receive advice in spotting house fire risks
Carers are to be given new advice on spotting those at risk of house fires, including smokers and those with mental health issues.
One person receiving care is dying from a fire every month in London on average, according to a London Fire Brigade (LFB) report.
It said in the last three years, 36 out of 119 accidental fire deaths involved people accessing some form of care.
The advice will form part of care workers’ inductions.
This includes those who care for people in their own homes, in sheltered accommodation and in care homes.
