Action needed on training for dementia carers

BBC Inside Out examines the weaknesses in the quality of training and care on offer to people with dementia in care homes and hospitals.

This week, the Care Quality Commission (CQC) published its inspection report, Cracks in the Pathway, which found dementia care is variable in some care homes and hospitals in England.

The quality of care for people with dementia is too often ‘unacceptable’ according to the CQC’s chief inspector of adult services, Andrea Sutcliffe.

New service offers housing help for older people in Norfolk

Moving home is considered one of the most stressful things to do in life, which is why a Norfolk charity is offering older people free advice and support about housing and care.

Examples of who the service has helped and how:

• A couple in their mid-70s were helping to move into sheltered housing after returning to the UK from living abroad. They will also helped to access benefits.

Pledge to make Norfolk businesses more dementia friendly

A project to make Norfolk the first dementia friendly county in the country has received a boost with the support from a number of major employers.

A business breakfast was held in Norwich today, which was organised by the Norfolk and Suffolk Dementia Alliance, to explore ways of making local businesses more supportive towards people with dementia and their carers.

The meeting included representatives from Aviva, the East of England Co-op, Kettle Chips, Bernard Matthews, First Eastern Counties buses and was also attended by Norman Lamb, North Norfolk MP and government care minister.
