Birmingham care homes under threat as firm faces cash crisis

COUNCIL bosses have moved to calm fears over the future of more than 400 people living in Birmingham care homes owned by ailing Southern Cross.

Birmingham City Council insisted contingency plans were in place after company officials warned they only had enough funds to continue operating into next month.

The charity was established in 1998 as a result of research conducted by Social Services, Health Authority, Local Authorities and Voluntary Organisations. This revealed a need to support unpaid carers throughout Norfolk. The We Care Appeal raises money for the Norfolk Millennium Trust for Carers, an Endowment Fund.

FRIENDS and family who care for sick, frail or disabled loved ones are saving the county’s health economy more than £1billion a year it has been revealed.

The figures have led to calls from carers charities to re-examine financial support given to carers by the state and the Government’s planned cuts to disability benefits.
