Carers are twice as likely to be suffering long-term illness and disability as the rest of the population, a study reveals today.

The survey, for Carers Scotland, found that 96% of unpaid carers had experienced a negative impact on their health because of their responsibilities, with more than a quarter rating their own health as poor or very poor. More than half had a long-term illness or disability, and two-thirds had experienced a range of physical problems.

Colourful parade raising funds for Russells Hall Hospital

All dressed up for carer cash

12:40pm Wednesday 3rd August 2011

A COLOURFUL parade of fancy dressed fundraisers caused a stir walking through Dudley on Sunday in their bid to raise cash for Russells Hall Hospital.

The group are all friends and family of Andrew Darby, who suffered a serious motorcycle collision on Dudley Road, Sedgley, in September last year.

The crash left Andy with severe brain and body injuries and he spent almost four months on the Intensive Care Unit of Russells Hall Hospital, with relatives now raising funds as a thank you to them for saving his life.
