Joint letter to Andrew Lansley on reform of care funding

An alliance of charities, care homes and housing providers says the government must not duck its commitment to reform

Dear Secretary of State,

On Tuesday 6th March, hundreds of older and disabled people, their families and carers will travel to Westminster with the same message for Parliament: we must end the crisis in our social care system.

They will speak for the millions of individuals and families we represent who are in desperate need of care and either going without or receiving inadequate support.

Years of underfunding, combined with rising demand have resulted in a social care system that is in crisis: an unfair and confusing postcode lottery which is now facing additional cuts. This is a challenge which successive Governments have failed to overcome – but we cannot wait any longer.

Carers get healing to help them relax

Bromley Healing Centre healers help carers from Carers Lewisham to relax

 

SPIRITUAL healers have paid a visit to carers to help them relax and unwind.

Four healers from Bromley Healing Centre went along to Carers Lewisham in Forest Hill to provide the one-to-one sessions to 18 carers and staff.

Changes force respite group to close down

A CHARITY which offers respite to carers is to fold after being told to change and extend its services without an increase in funding.

Bosses at Suffolk Respite say they would have been unable to afford the new service model laid down by Suffolk County Council.

The Ipswich-based organisation, which will close at the end of this month, supports those with enduring and severe mental health issues two or three hours a week to give their full-time carer a break.
