Roadshows raise awareness of support available for Wiltshire’s upaid carers

Unpaid carers and staff from GP practices across Wiltshire have been attending local roadshows to help raise awareness of the support available to carers.

Wiltshire Investors in Carers is a scheme which aims to increase awareness of work already being undertaken to support carers in GP practices in the county.

Patients promised online GP booking by 2015

Patients in England will be able to book GP appointments and get test results online within three years, ministers are promising.

The moves are part of an Information Strategy designed to “take the hassle out of the health service”.

Online communications between patients and their doctors is already happening in some places.

But the strategy sets out plans to ensure there is universal adoption of digital technologies.

Councils ‘failing to assess needs of carers of people with autism’

Survey finds four out of five carers have not been through assessment process that councils are obliged to provide

Only one in five carers of people with autism have ever received the local authority assessment of their needs to which they are legally entitled, according to a major survey of carers’ needs.

Of more than 5,500 carers who filled in an online survey for the National Autistic Society (NAS), 80% said they had never been through the assessment process, which local authorities are obliged to provide and which helps them obtain the right assistance. Only 26% of those who responded said they received any help at all from a council or health authority.
