Alzheimer’s gene ‘diabetes link’

Scientists say they have identified a possible genetic link between diabetes and Alzheimer’s disease.

It has been known for some time that people with diabetes have a much higher risk of developing Alzheimer’s, but not why this is so.

Sleaford carers’ group gets grant to fund Woodland Walk

AN organisation in Sleaford has received a grant to fund an Olympic and Paralympic inspired project.

Sleaford Carers Group has been awarded £100 of grant funding to support their Woodland Walk, which will have an Olympic theme. The money will be used to pay for a trip out, including a lunch for the carers, on Friday, June 22.

The money has been funded through a project called Silver Spirit at Lincolnshire Sports Partnership, which awards grants of up to £300 to community groups and organisations whose members are mostly aged over 50 years and who want to run Olympic and Paralympic inspired projects in the run-up to the 2012 Games.

MPs discuss mental health problems in emotional Commons debate

A Tory MP disclosed she suffered suicidal feelings after having a baby as a series of MPs spoke today of their personal battles with mental illness in an emotional Commons debate.

The Conservative Dr Sarah Wollaston, a GP, said she had experienced “severe” post-natal depression at what should have been the “happiest time of my life”.

She said: “I know what it’s like and I’m sure there are many other MPs who will know exactly what it feels like to feel that your family would genuinely be better off with you and to experience the paralysis that can come with severe depression.”
