Taxi driver fined for refusing guide dog
A taxi driver who refused to carry a blind woman because of her guide dog has been hit with a court bill for more than £1,500.
Matloob Hussain had travelled to pick up Kelly Ann Roberts from her home in Walsall Wood as she was due to attend the Manor Hospital with her mother.
But the driver refused to accept black Labrador cross Roxy in the cab and allegedly claimed Mrs Roberts was not blind as she was blinking. Hussain, of Essex Street, Walsall, denied making the statement.
He also insisted he did not know it was a guide dog.

Until psychological or drug-based treatments for dementia come along, the medical and residential care community is working on the basis that the disease may be related to stress and, therefore, anything which relaxes sufferers may help them cope better. In its latest initiative, the Alzheimer’s Society is funding a research project being led by Professor Clive Holmes at the University of Southampton. The plan is to monitor 140 people aged over 50 and with mild cognitive impairment for a period of 18 months.
Five-year-old among 1,322 children registered as carers in Lincolnshire
A 5-year-old is among 1,322 children and young people registered as carers in Lincolnshire.
The figures have been released by Lincolnshire County Council in response to a freedom of information request.

Young carers are defined as children under 18 who look after a relative with a physical or learning disability, mental health condition, long-term illness or who are affected by drugs or alcohol.
They carry out tasks such as monitoring medication, helping with day to day activities and household chores.
