1st – 30th November Lung Cancer Awareness Month

Lung cancer is the UK’s biggest cancer killer, claiming the lives of more than 33,500 people in the UK every year – more than leukaemia, breast and prostate cancer combined – yet it receives a mere 3% of all money spent on cancer research in this country.

The British Lung Foundation believes it is vital that this balance is redressed in order that people with lung cancer receive the best possible treatment and care available.

A Wymondham hairdresser gave customers a fright yesterday as she donned a ghoulish Halloween costume in a bid to raise sponsorship for a challenging mountain climb.

Kirsty Jones-Hanford, 21, manager at Cutting Edge hair salon, hoped her surprise dressing-up efforts would help her inch closer towards a £4,300 fundraising target she needs to hit before embarking on a trip to the top of Mount Kilimanjaro next September – the highest peak in Africa standing at 5,895m (19,341ft) above sea level.

FOUR charities were celebrating yesterday after pocketing nearly £200,000 in Health Lottery cash.

 

The payouts will help dementia sufferers, young carers and healthy living campaigns in Kent and Medway.
