A CHARITY that supports carers in the Stirling area scooped a lottery jackpot yesterday (Tuesday).

The area’s branch of the Carers’ Forum was awarded £118,836.

May Kirkwood, who manages Stirling Carers’ Centre in Barnton Street, said: “This funding for our young carers’ education project means that we can achieve our aim, which is to provide support to young carers in primary and secondary school within the Stirling Council area, helping them to achieve their full potential.

“It is vital that we continue to raise the awareness of the issues affecting young carers and help professionals identify the often hidden young carers.

“We believe that early intervention is paramount to providing young carers with the support they need and deserve and to be able to take full advantage of all the opportunities available in and out of school.”
