A new £70m specialist emergency care hospital is due to be built in Northumbria and will be the first of its kind in the country.
Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust said it was looking for a construction company to build the new hospital from next year, which will be the first to have specialist A&E consultants on site 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
The trust has earmarked a site alongside the A189 near East Cramlington, with the aim of ensuring fast access from rural areas of Northumberland.

Hundreds of grants have been made to some of Norfolk’s neediest elderly people, as money floods in to an appeal to help them meet their heating bills.
How to apply for help
Applications for help from the Surviving Winter campaign are being processed by Age UK Norfolk.
Age UK’s Jasmine Toombs said a decision would normally be made within days of receiving a call.
“We’ll have a chat about their circumstances, so we understand how best we’re able to help them,” she said.
Payments are usually made within a week to 10 days.
