Elderly ‘should be cared for at home on NHS’
Elderly patients should be looked after at home by NHS-funded carers instead of being kept at hospital, experts said in a criticism of the Government’s health reforms.

Spending more NHS money on community health programmes and social care would reduce the burden placed on hospitals by patients including dementia sufferers, according to a new report.
But the coalition has failed to remove barriers which prevent health and social care from being more closely integrated, the Association of Directors of Adult Social Services (ADASS) said.

Pembrokeshire’s newly-appointed Carers’ Champions aim to make people aware of the vital work carers provide across the county.
County Council representative Cllr David Bryan, of Haverfordwest, said that there is often confusion about the word carer.
“A carer is someone who, without payment, provides help and support to a partner, parent, child, friend or neighbour who could not manage without their help,” he said.

With a diagnosis of bipolar and borderline personality disorder, I have managed my mental health pretty well over the years, even if I do say so myself. I have stayed employed, volunteered for charity and even found someone to marry me! And the one person who has been there every step of the way is, of course, my mum. Supportive, often humorous and always on my side, my mum Chris is an inspiring woman in so many ways, however one instance springs to mind when I think of how much I still need her, even though I am a grown woman with a home and life of my own now.
