Community and voluntary groups to benefit from £3.2m Derbyshire County Council cash

Community and voluntary groups aimed at supporting older and vulnerable people are in line to benefit from a share of £3.2 million if Derbyshire County Council gives the grants plan the go-ahead.

The county council’s Cabinet, which meets next Tuesday (24th April), will consider giving grants to 230 local voluntary and community organisations across the county.

Sophie Raworth who collapsed during last year’s marathon is running again this year in aid of St John’s Ambulance.

Tens of thousands of fun runners and amateur athletes have set off in bright sunshine as the 32nd London marathon got under way.

Up to 37,500 athletes are expected to finish the 26.2-mile course through the streets of the capital to earn their marathon medals and raise money for countless charities.

As well as the elite athletes and fun runners, a host of celebrities crossed the start line in support of good causes.

Newsreader Sophie Raworth, 43, revealed she is running in aid of St John’s Ambulance after collapsing during last year’s event.

Young carers have a tough life

THE Lynn News Young Carers Appeal has now hit the £12,000 mark thanks to a donation by a group of generous bowlers.

The West Newton Carpet Bowls Club has raised £300 to help children and teenagers who are caring for sick relatives.

Club chairman Trevor Riches presented the money to campaign organiser Jackie Haverson on Tuesday.

The total now stands at a fantastic £12,553 but more money is still needed to help the scores of children and teenagers who looking after relatives.
