Research has shown that the county’s carers are missing out on free help because they don’t think of themselves as carers.
An estimated 100,000 people are unaware of the help available to them and a countywide campaign is being launched by Lancashire County Council, in partnership with Carers Lancashire, to let carers know that advice, information and practical support is only a phone call away.
Joanne McMaster, carers’ strategy officer at Lancashire County Council, said: “You don’t necessarily have to live in the same house or be related to the person you look after to count as a carer.
PM outlines dementia support plan
Dementia Friends
The Prime Minister is calling on a million members of the public to provide support for dementia sufferers.
David Cameron has set out his ambitious plan to create masses of “dementia friends” who will be able to spot the signs of the condition and offer support for sufferers.
Mr Cameron, who says that tackling dementia is a “personal priority” of his, hopes that one million people will sign up to receive coaching sessions by 2015. The sessions, which will be provided in church halls and workplaces, will help to raise awareness and teach people how to support those with the condition.

A social group for disabled youngsters enjoyed a hair-raising Halloween encounter with snakes and scorpions last week.

But as wildlife expert Glen Arscott explained to members of Skegness Ability Group, the animals to fear most are often the least expected.
Though slithering snakes and scuttling spiders inspire dread in many people, Glen joked the cute and cuddly meerkats were the most dangerous animals in his menagerie.
Group leader Sylvia Myers said: “It was strange to learn that all of these scary creatures were perfectly safe, and when he put the tarantula on my hand it was very calm.”
Around 30 youngsters had the chance to handle various creatures including pythons, giant stick insects and skunks when they attended Skegness Youth Centre on Briar Way last Wednesday.
