An overspend of more than £7m to provide care for vulnerable adults in Norfolk
An overspend of more than £7m to provide care for vulnerable adults in Norfolk has led opposition councillors to attack an “embarrassing’ lack of planning on the part of county council leaders.
Almost £3.8m from reserves is being used to plug the funding gap, but the adult social services budget is still shy by £3.3m.
At a meeting of Norfolk County Council’s adult social care committee today, councillors had been due to discuss what officers described as a “major change” in the way the council provides care.
Officers want to shift from expensive institutional residential and day care to promoting independence through community support without people having to rely on council-funded services.
