A local specialist palliative care unit has received a significant donation from the organisers of the recent Norwich Beer Festival. Representatives from Norfolk Community Health and Care NHS Trust’s [NCH&C] Priscilla Bacon Lodge received a cheque for £3,300 from Norwich and Norfolk Campaign for Real Ale [CAMRA] at an event held on 26 January.
The 16–bed inpatient unit, on Unthank Road, Norwich, is provided by NCH&C and offers specialist palliative care, advice and support to people with life–limiting illnesses, such as cancer or motor–neurone disease, and their family and friends.

Staff at the unit provide specialist nursing care within a community setting which helps to aims to keep patients as comfortable and independent as possible, particularly when their conditions worsen.
Christine Hawkins, modern matron at Priscilla Bacon Lodge, said: “Charitable donations, whether they be large or small, can help make a big difference to our patients. For example, we have used previous donations to purchase new, more comfortable, chairs to help make our patients and their families more relaxed during their visit. We have also used donations to purchase a range of other items, including specialist beds, more equipment, TVs and even extra bottles of toiletries for our patients.”
