Macmillan warns new NHS ‘friends and family test’ falls short for patients

Ciarán Devane, Chief Executive of Macmillan Cancer Support, says:

“We welcome the Government’s recommendations announced today to improve the quality of nursing care in hospitals. The proposed ‘friends and family test’ is a good start to highlight which hospitals need to improve their care but it is too basic to make real improvements on the ground.

“Cancer patients tell us that being treated with dignity and respect by health professionals is paramount to their treatment and recovery. Macmillan has already developed new standards of care based on core human values. We urge the Government to work with us to roll out values based standards across the NHS.”
