A grant from the council will help to fund an event for carers across St Albans.

Councillor Maxine Crawley and Councillor Teresa Heritage have each given £375 from their locality budgets to Carers in Hertfordshire to help fund a Listening to Carers event in November.

Carers in Hertfordshire is a county-wide voluntary organisation that gives support to unpaid family and friends who care for someone.

They provide the space for carers to discuss practical and emotional concerns and the opportunity to share experiences with other people in similar situations.

The event will enable carers who live in Harpenden, Redbourn and Wheathamstead to meet together to discuss what is important to them, to prioritise the issues that emerge and to agree on an action plan with local service providers and commissioners to address those issues.

Councillor Crawley and Councillor Heritage agreed that: “Family carers play such an important role by supporting someone they know with illness or disability who could not otherwise manage, so it is really important that carers have an input into the development of the services and support available to them in their local area.”
