Leeds Art Gallery opens doors for Damien Hirst exhibition

An exhibition hosting work by controversial artist Damien Hirst has opened at Leeds Art Gallery.

The event is ideal for those on city breaks and is the first time ever that a dedicated display of his work has been seen in Leeds.

It looks at work from his student days, where he studied at Leeds College of Art and Design, and then later pieces which have made him a world-renowned artist.

Pieces such as Away From the Flock will be on display, along with items from other collections, including those looking at birth, illness, death and religion.

Fans of Hirst’s work can see the exhibition until Sunday October 30th.

The event is running as part of the national Artist Rooms programme, which is bringing work held by Tate and National Galleries of Scotland to venues around the UK.

More than 20 museums and galleries are taking part in the event this year, with 17 of these based outside of London and Edinburgh.

Among the other events starting at Leeds Art Gallery in July include Sporting Fame in Artspace and Playground, which features exciting multisensory equipment for youngsters and their carers.
