Fun day for young carers in West Norfolk

WEST NORFOLK: Time to honour area’s top dads

Youngsters are being urged to say why their dad is the best around ahead of a charity fund day to be held in Lynn this summer.

The West Norfolk Carers are asking children to nominate their dad for a chance to take the title of Best Dad at a charity fun day to be held in The Walks on Fathers’ Day in June.

The Lynn charity works across West Norfolk to support unpaid carers by running support groups for the area’s young carers, which are entirely self-funded.

And officials hope to raise the funds to keep the service running by holding a family fun day and 5k run in The Walks on Sunday, June 16, as part of Carers’ Week.

The fun day will run for noon until4pm with activities for all ages, music, bouncy castles, entertainers, sports and games, crafts, competitions and more.

Jack Bishop, of Bawsey Fitness Boot Camp, will provide a warm up before the start of the 5km fun run at 2pm.

All runners taking part will need to pay a £10 entrance fee and can also collect sponsorship for the West Norfolk Young Carers.

Laura Bradshaw, GP development worker, said: “As part of the activities on the day we will be holding a Best Dad Competition.

“We would like children to nominate their dad and write a little bit about why they think their dad is the best in West Norfolk.

“We will choose 10 finalists who will need to attend the fun day and carry out some silly games and activities so that we can decide on a winner.”

All entries must have a parent or guardian’s permission and a phone number to invite them to the fun day.

Entries should be sent to Laura Bradshaw at West Norfolk Carers, 20 Thoresby College, Queen Street, King’s Lynn, PE30 1HX.

Anyone interested in taking part should phone 01553 768155 for more details. The closing date for entries is Friday May 31.

Carers’ support groups meet regularly in Lynn, Downham, Swaffham, Hunstanton and Hillington to provide support for carers across the borough.

A group for carers who look after people with substance misuse problems also meets in the cafe at Lynn’s Corn Exchange on the second Tuesday of each month.
