Fourteen Cornish Charities Get Grants Cut

Pressure is going to be increased on carers

Fourteen Cornish charities are having their grants cut.

It is as Cornwall Council is scrapping a number of adult social care services.

It means some vulnerable adults in the Duchy could lose out on vital support.

Some are warning jobs could have to go.

Among those hit are organisations helping with housing or supporting people with head injuries.

The council says adult social care providers were given warning this could happen.

Ruben Jenkins is from Carers Break, which has escaped the cuts, he said: “You are going to have people more isolated, more lonely, pressure is going to be increased on carers, families are going to be stretched, there is something like 60,000 carers in Cornwall and their role as carers is going to be more stretched.

“There is likely to be more bed blocking because community care or care in the community as it’s known has a direct influence on bed blocking at the Royal Cornwall Hospital and other hospitals around the county, so that is going to be the first impact.”
