Prime Minister pledges a revolution in mental health treatment

The Prime Minister will announce almost a billion pounds of investment to enhance mental health services across the country.

  • £290 million to provide specialist care to mums before and after having their babies
  • first ever waiting time targets to be introduced for teenagers with eating disorders and people experiencing psychosis
  • nearly £250 million for mental health services in hospital emergency departments
  • over £400 million to enable 24/7 treatment in communities as safe and effective alternative to hospital

When I was younger, I’d have to make an excuse to leave the room whenever sex scenes came on the television. I learned to sniff out at a bedroom scene within 30 seconds and escape to make tea, or feign a yawn and head off to bed.

Welcomed in Lancashire.

The Chancellor’s announcement that more money is to be pumped into mental health services has been welcomed in Lancashire.

Alan Frew, founder and managing director of Preston-headquartered home care specialist, Community Life Choices, said: “Mental health care is one of the biggest unmet needs of our time and it’s promising to see the chancellor pledge a further £600m in funding.
